Comment #2 on issue 677 by GrahamMcAllister: Desktop shortcut behaviour is ridiculous on Mac
http://code.google.com/p/gears/issues/detail?id=677

While it's true that some users may like the behaviour, it is still not "standard" for Mac, and hence confusing or non-intuitive for the rest of us Mac users. Please just put it into the Applications folder, like all the other applications written for Mac OS do. One of the great things about Mac OS is that most developers respect the "rules" and guidelines and most applications behave consistently, I'm not sure why Google chose to behave differently, I suspect it may be because Windows developers ported gears to Mac and assumed that desktop shortcuts are the way to go. Some gears applications (for example, Remember the Milk and even Google Calendar) actually even go so far as to RECREATE the annoying desktop shortcut, even after it has been moved by the user into the Applications folder... leaving you with two .apps for the same application. Annoying!
