Hey Eric --
As far as I know, we don't have a feature like that.  Sounds pretty
compelling though!  I think this is a great idea.  You should put it on the
issue tracker:
http://code.google.com/p/gears/issues/list

For right now, the best that there is is the Desktop API which lets you have
shortcuts on the desktop to a URL.  This still keeps the user a few clicks
away from importing, though.
