Hi All, I'd like to develop a Geolocation web application that works offline as well as online. My target audience are people with Mobile GPS devices (GPS or GPS phones). I needs to capture GPS waypoints, i.e. the different locations of a user over time.
Gears seems the best way to go for me as it supports all the platforms I need (WM6, Android, iPhone, etc), has GPS support and offline and online support. I develop on Windows and do not have a real GPS:-(. In Gears, GPS are only supported on WM6 and Android , I thought the only way for me to develop and test my application is to: - develop on Windows, - test using the WM6 emulator from Microsoft To test the GPS on Gears, I installed FakeGPS from the WM6 SDK (to simulate a GPS on WM6) - install Gears on the emulator. To test this setup, I have run hello_world_geolocation.html both on Windows and WM6 (inside the emulator, with IE mobile, with FakeGPS). It kinda works but the result are not the one expected on WM6. On WM6, I get the same location as on Windows (somewhere in the UK), although the location from the GPS should be near Grenoble, France (I have setup FakeGPS with the right NMEA file). To check that FakeGPS works, I have used Google Maps for Mobile, with "UseGPS", and it works great, right location and all. Still, if I try to use "MyLocation" from Google maps for Mobile, I get an error 'your handset does not seems to be compatible'. I have checked that hello_world_geolocation.html sets enableHighAccuracy to true, so it should use the GPS. I have taken a look at the gears code (very readable) but I have not been able to find a way to make this simple example work the way I think it should work. I have played a bit with the hello_world_geolocation.html code, using watchPosition instead of getCurrentPosition with no success. I am running out of ideas and I'd really appreciate any help. If somebody has been able to test a Gears geolocation application on Windows using GPS locations that change over time , I'd really appreciate any feedback on the setup of the test environment. Thanks to all, keep on the good work ! Erwan PS: here is the versions of the tools in my test setup: Google Gears : 0.4.24.0;official;opt;wince;ie_mobile Google Maps Mobile : 2.2.0.20 Internet Explorer Mobile : coming from WM6 SDK refresh Microsoft Device Emulator V3 - 9.0.2122.8 (coming from WM6 SDK refresh) Windows Mobile 6 Professional - CE OS 5.2.1235 (Build 17740.0.2.0) FakeGPS (coming from WM6 SDK refresh)
