I think it depends on the OS and how well it can cope with such
scenarios. Any app can cause this, Gears is no exception here.

If the writes will fail, these errors should be propagated back to
your script as JS exceptions.

We have had some discussions along these lines but I am afraid we
don't yet have concrete plans to address this issue.
