I am having exactly the same issue as described below. I have tried re-installing Gears and it seems to really not install ever - and stays in the "loop" having me restart Firefox and then load Gears again. When I click on Firefox browser menu TOOLS / ADD-ONS , Gears appears but the OPTIONS link is not active.
