I know this list has been saturated with questions about availability on 64-bit Linux systems. I'm aware of the resource issue and the patched versions being distributed, but I still don't think Google "gets it." So here is my (short) argument for support.
1. 64-bit market share can only go up. I don't have exact statistics (seems nobody does these days) it doesn't take a genius to see that the percent of PCs running 32-bit Linux is not likely to go up. Until people run into stuff like Gears. 2. Look at Sun. It's taken them at least *three years* to support the Java browser plugin on 64-bit linux (http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/ view_bug.do?bug_id=4802695). And it's still not working for a lot of people, so that's almost five years now. A lot of people are pissed at them. 3. Look at Skype. At least with Gears we have the source so we can patch it ourselves (and I'm glad for those who do) but really... you guys are Google. I expect more from you guys. Anyway, I doubt this will convince anyone but I'd at least like to make my voice heard. It's a bit disappointing to see the amount of interest generated by the issue and still see Google refusing to take action.
