I installed Google Gears on Firefox version 3.07 about a week ago as part of investigating the functionality associated with the offline use of Zoho's SaaS, primarily Zoho Docs. After installing Gears, I began to notice that I was getting logged out of Google with increasing frequency. Finally today, I was unable to navigate to any websites in Firefox, either by entering a website address in the URL bar, or by using a bookmark. I had already cleared all cookies, temporary files, authenticated sessions, the browser cache, etc. to no avail. Finally, I uninstalled Gears as a last resort before attempting to uninstall Firefox and the problem seems to have been rectified by uninstalling Gears.
I am running Firefox version 3.07 on a new Intel-based MacBook with 4G RAM, running Apple OS X version 10.5 (Leopard). The only other application installed in Firefox is Chatzilla, which has been installed for about 5 months now with no problems. I'm not sure what the issue is here, but Gears seems to be the culprit since my Firefox browser issues disappeared after uninstalling it.
