i had the same thing Michael. if you're on a mac i found that if it's installed for Safari it won't show. uninstall from Safari and Firefox and the download/instal button will appear in FF. uninstall by running terminal and typing:

        • Quit Safari
        • Open /Applications/Terminal.app
• Type '/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/Gears.plugin/Contents/Resources/ uninstall.command' (including the quotes) and hit enter
        • Enter root password when prompted

I believe I have encountered a bug in the detect script at
gears.google.com. The error I am seeing is
var buildInfo = google.gears.factory.getBuildInfo(); results in
google.gears.factory.getBuildInfo is not a function

Here's the use case that resulted in it:

User upgraded Firefox to 3.5 during the few weeks when Gears did not
support the browser. Thus, Gears broke.

Now that 0.5.29.0 is out, user with the broken Gears goes to
http://gears.google.com/ to upgrade.

However, the entire right side of the page at http://gears.google.com/
is blank - the blue box that detects if Gears is installed and offers
the link to click here for installation is not coming up. The
firefox
Firefox Add-ons window does not detect Gears as having been
installed
either, so that's not an option.

User tried removing the relevant Gears directories and so on, but
nothing
leads to the detection script working.

I am pretty confident it's a bug in that script in the important case
of someone having upgraded
Firefox sometime in the last few weeks.

Thanks in advance for your help with this.
