Hey everybody, I've been trying to install Gears for a few hours and after searching a lot of help forums and FAQs and so on, I could not get Gears installed.
When I double-click on "GoogleInstaller_en.application" the file is trying to connect with a server but after one or two seconds there's this error message: (well, I have a German Windows, so I hope I'm translating this message correctly) "The application can not be started/loaded." and below it says: "The application could not be downloaded. Required files are missing in the application. Please contact the distributor of the application". Then I can click on "OK" or on "Details". When I open "Details" a .txt file is opened. The only thing that didn't seem to work is "'file:/// C:/Dokumente und Einstellungen/****/Desktop/ clickonce_bootstrap.exe.manifest' could not be downloaded". So far I have tried everything that is written on the Gears Help page: - BITS is running perfectly - googleupdate.exe is not blocked by any firewall - I don't use any proxy server to surf the internet I have WinXP SP3 and Firefox 3.5.1.
