Thanks for the reply on my post.

I know you can get offline functionality with Gears, this is one of the main
reasons why I want to look in using it. However, my COMPLETE site was
developed with PHP, mainly due to the fact that plain HTML does not give you
MySQL connectivity and does not allow you to develop functions.

SO... From what I understand, GEARS uses HTML and Javascript ONLY. If so, my
website will not work off-line, as I need PHP to connect to the database,
and all my pages has PHP  includes and php placeholders.

I am not sure if I truly understand how GEARS can help me.

You can get off-line functionality with gears, pretty easy. There are
many step by step articles on this group, also the tutorial from main
gears page. You will not use PHP for that, but Gears API (mainly
javascript).
