I too am having this problem. Firefox 3.5.1 on Mac OS X 10.5.7. I have gone as far as removing Gears, disabling all add-ons, completely removing Firefox and all related caches, and as a last resort I deleted my profile and rebuilt it from scratch. Still getting the "Failed to load required resources" error. However, it starts to create the files in the Caches folder and will even place the icon on my desktop, so I'm not sure what the problem is here...
