As I know, Gears is not supported on Snow Leopard yet. Google even doesn't provide installer for Snow Leopard so you're lucky that you upgraded from Leopard and have Gears working with Gmail, Google Reader and Google Calendar. You should just wait until Snow Leopard is supported or you can help with Gears development to make this support come faster.
