My apologies. I was taking care of more than one problem at the same
time when I responded to you and gave you the wrong URL. Here is the one
I should have posted. The site has both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions
of Gears that work with Firefox 3.6 compiled into .xpi files. Just
install like you would a regular Firefox extension. I use the 32 bit
version myself with no problem (these were compiled by someone else in
this group):

Again, sorry for the mix up.

Thanks for responding.
The page you are referring to clearly states it is not for Linux.
As you may have noted I run the kubuntu distribution.
So this one will not work.

Sweatshirt - This version off the Mozilla Add-ons site works for Firefox
3.6, both standard and portable versions. The official version from the
Google Gears site should work okay for 3.5.8.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13492(for 3.6)
Once Gears is installed, check it out to make sure it's working ( make
sure you get a dialog box when clicking on "Tools/Gears Settings", etc).
If it is, which it should be, you can ignore the error message you
referenced in your message. It's a minor compatibility checking glitch
in the Gears coding and actually means nothing.

From AdWords Google advised me to install gears.
Tested config:

Tested gears:
- from download site: gears-linux-opt.xpi
- from suggestion in discussion group: gears-linux-x86_64-
opt-0.5.34.0.xpi
Description:
Whatever combination of FF and gears i get the same error on
installation:
incompatible extension:
... not compatible with your Firefox build type (Linux_x86-gcc3) ....
How can this be made to work?
Thanks
