Eric's right, that means something's wrong with the compiler. If you
type this on the console, what do you see?
$ valac --version
You might search /usr and be sure that you don't have an older version
of Vala installed.

Since the compilation errors are in the Vapi files rather than
Geary,
that's a sign that there's something very wrong with your Vala
installation. What OS are you using, and how exactly did you
install Vala?
Do other Vala/GTK applications compile on your system?
