I'm not sure it's the same problem -- Yoel did see the uid != null
issue, but I also noticed some spurious warnings in the log file about
the mail's Date: field that could possibly be causing problems
elsewhere.
The uid != null problem is, I promise, being worked on right now. It's
a significant issue, not something that can be easily worked around
with a small patch.

Some weeks ago I already had a closer look at this issue and also
added
some debug output to the IMAP code.
What I could find out:
- This really happens only for emails without subject (I could not
find
any message with subject which caused this crash)
- If I understood the debug output correctly and if I remember
correctly now, some weeks later: I think the subject field was
completely missing in the IMAP response. And then the other fields
were
extracted in the wrong order. The fields coming after the subject were
all shifted by 1 column to the left and got mixed up.
As I already said, I'm not sure if I understood the debug output
correctly and I did not find the time to have another closer look at
it yet.
But maybe I can help you working on this, if I setup a test Zimbra
server and IMAP mailbox for you, on which you can easily reproduce
this?
I could do the following, if this helps you working on this:
- Install Zimbra Open Source Edition running on Ubuntu as Virtual
Machine
- Create a test IMAP mailbox there and copy one of the messages
causing
the crash to a subfolder in that mailbox
- I could then send you a download link for the ready-to-run Virtual
Machine Image (I would suggest a qemu-kvm image which you can easily
run on any Ubuntu machine with kvm and virt-manager installed)
- Or: I could also run the Virtual Machine Image for you on some
server
which can be reached from the internet and give you access to the IMAP
mailbox there (maybe this is the fastest way, however I can only keep
this VM up and running for about 2 months or so, I cannot promise to
keep it up for a longer time ...)
What do you think? Would this make it easier for you having a look at
it?
