I'm not exactly sure why you're seeing that problem, but I will say
that a considerable amount of work has been done on Geary since 0.3.1
was released. Unfortunately, the latest version is not easily
installed on elementary without upgrading a lot of support libraries.
I'm not even sure it's possible, I've not heard from anyone who has
been able to make it work.
The problem you're seeing may be due to a flaky connection. How are
you connected to the Internet on this machine? Are you having trouble
with any other network app?
