also This person might not A). Like geckosI think that is a definite possibility - or they may just not respect other forms of life besides a select few "traditionally" respected ones, such as homo sapiens, dogs or cats.
B). Are afraid of them or?People wanting to get geckos out of their homes usually state that they are afraid. One lady wrote me and said she was not afraid, but her children were! I had never seen a kid that was afraid of geckos! They also tend to ask if they are poisonous.
Sometimes i think we as a group get High and Mighty and forget what it is like for those who don't have reptiles.I don't think that describes my attitude here. I feel people should respect all forms of life and not just eliminate them without asking a few questions first, like most people usually do. What is "High and Mighty" is not considering any lifeforms besides traditional ones as valuable.
As they do not have a need for them at all. That is fine. Just don't go around arbitrarily killing what you don't like and I am fine with it.
I have some friends that think i am crazy for having 12 parrots and 30 geckos. but they like all my tattoos. <G>That is the beauty of life when each of us respects our individuality. Only really narrow minded folks don't understand a harmless nutty passion like keeping geckos. I can tell if I'm going to like a person when I first meet them if I can mention my business of gecko keeping. If they give me a mildly puzzled look and smile, I can accept that. I do something very non-traditional and don't expect everyone to understand that. If they give me a very disapproving look they will likely not be seeing me anytime soon!
I.M.H.O. Burke P.S. Hope to see ya at the show next weekend.
I'm done with shows possibly till Daytona next year until Jeremy Epstein of Upscale Reptiles sets another date for a Northern CA show. He runs really classy shows, I hope he gets the Cow Palace in San Francisco. Great venue, and all kinds of interesting folks come - people in leather, traditional folk, you name it!Julie Bergman
