Daygeckoes like birds nest ferns

Well the caption says it all.

Day geckoes live on smooth surfaces in nature: leaves of Ravenala, the travelers tree and it's nowadays much more propagated congener the banana. They would like to have the same in captivity. Bamboostems do fullfill their wishes a bit, but then the geckoes still like to sit on the front-glass. And as they tend to defecate while resting, they spoil the glass very often.

One of the plant types that will attract Phelsuma's and will convince them there are better spots to sit on then this cold glass are large smooth leaves of Asplenium nidus-avis, the birds nest fern. Its easy to grow in warm and humid vivaria. Almost too easy. It may grow into a very large plant. But do not worry. The roots of this fern will act like the roots of treefern and form something like alow stem. You could cut of the head of the fern and transplant it to somewhere you could make use of it and then, replace the old large leaved head by a younger plant. Anyway, Phelsuma's love these ferns and when you'll leave the occasional dead leave in the vivarium too, several of the non-glueing species like to lay their eggs between these as well
