I don't understand why you are making this so complicated.  All you need
is an undertank warmer, like a human heating pad, under one end of the
tank, or a clamp lamp with a dark red or blue bulb of suitable wattage
over one end.  If you have hides on both the warm and cool ends, Roxy can
pick the temperature she prefers when ever she wants to.
