Thought people might share my fun with Roxy. I woke her up today and
hand-fed her 2 mealies in her shack. Afterwards, she consented to walk onto
my hand and I walked around the room with her. She likes to be held, I
think because of my body heat. It's the same with boas and pythons.
She frequently tastes my skin with her tongue. I imagine that it's getting
familiar. I don't really handle her too much, but I hand-feed her through
the hole in her bowl every 3 days or so so she stays used to me and
associates me with a good meal.
This is fun. Leopards seem to be able to get used to human contact, and
even juveniles, which are known to be very defensive, can be tamed if you
give them their space. I really don't plan to make a habit of handling Roxy
that much, because it _is_ a stress to remove her from her cage that she
knows so well. I really care for her very much and I want her to be able to
provide the best conditions for her and for her to grow as big as she is
able to. I care so much for her that if the caring part wasn't involved, I
might almost call it a kind of obsession. I _am_ very happy that I happened
to get her and that Leopards are so forgiving.
