Laura,
I ordered 5k 1/4 size. Sometime ago when I suspected shortage on orders, I actually
measured
pinheads, one and two week olds in a test tube and that's what I've used ever since.
I think I
actually got 100 more crickets per 1k, so that's a really great count considering I've
ordered from
about just every vendor here in California and they are usually short as much as 20%.
I don't feed
a lot of crickets because I don't raise them. I do grow three species of fruit flies,
wax worms,
rice beetles, and spring tails and collect termites and other wild insects. When I
want to
condition my darts to breed (150+ and growing), I pack them full of termites, wax
worms, and
crickets and that always gets them going. I feed house flies, moths and crickets to
my geckos which
aren't very many, 1.2 klemeri and one solitary male guimbeaui that is waiting for
some nice ladies
to arrive. Good luck.
Sincerely,
David Macias
