Thanks for the advice. Actually, it's hard to picture from my description.

bowl 6" across, so on each side you have 3". The light is directly over a
spot 2" left of the edge of the bowl - leaving 5" to the left of that - 1/4
of the tank. Can't avoid it because of the 10" reflector. So basically the
10" reflector occupies the left half of the tank.
I did cool the light down - it irks me a little to se 80F on the thermometer
on the back wall - but I'm hedging my bets on this cold night (18 already)
by leaving a warm spot where Roxy usually goes to warm up at night.
