Who is Robin Leach? A handsome male Pine Island R. leachianus, not an
old fart ogling over the rich and famous! I found him gaping and making
a strange sound in his terrarium yesterday am. Since gaping is one of
those REALLY bad signs in the reptile world, I rushed him off to UC
Davis Vet Teaching Hospital. He was real happy about that, especially
the fast ride over there in my loud Trans-Am! He was even more thrilled
to be prodded and poked by the vets over there and rewarded them with an
interesting vocalization!
The fantastic non-domestic vets over there think what happened to our
friend, after examining him and doing x-rays, was that a cricket leg or
some such item got stuck somewhere, probably in his throat or trachea.
After swallowing a whole bunch of air and a bunch of hacking, as
indicated by slight swelling of the throat, our robust friend probably
succeeded in extricating the offending item himself! Not to worry. Robin
even accepted some carrot babyhood from the apologetic vets before he
was whisked back to his preferred abode.
Another day in the life of the (cricket) rich and (now) famous Robin
Leach!
