Well last night I came home to a surprise. I had a terrible migraine due
to the rice burning, and started feeding the fish to help me unwind after
work. I fed the tank in the living room and then went to feed the small
tank in the reptile room. It is on the floor next to my big Tokay tank. Out
of the corner of my eye I saw something move. The Tokays in this tank are
pretty calm except for the one guarding a set of four eggs. She is very shy
and runs to hide when she sees me enter the room.
I turned on the light for a better look and sitting in the pothos was a
very tiny Tokay. :> It ran to momma and next to her was the sibling. I was
shocked, because due to the high cost of energy, I have been keeping the
house really cool. The Tokay do well at room temperature and my gecko room
is only about 70-75F at the warmest, and that is thanks to the excess heat
that the snake unit gives off. I did not expect the eggs to hatch due to
the temperature extremes they where getting. They took approximately 5-6
months to hatch and the babies look pretty fat and sassy. The other set
looks like they are pretty close to hatching too. They are pretty dark in
color.
I am so happy! The Tokay has always been my favorite gecko. I in take
quite a few rescue animals. Now I just have to brave Momma. I want to see
if I can get these babies out and in their own tank, so I can work on
taming them.
