I second what Lyle said! I believe every regular GGA lister here will back
me up in saying that is an incredibly premature and erroneous judgment. You
can check the GGA list archives and reading through those will verify this
is a very valuable resource unlike anything on the internet. People from all
over the world contribute to this list. Folks with years and years of
experience with geckos all of us individually could not hope to attain in
our lifetimes devote their time here, without a dime in return. Our reward
is seeing you successful with our beloved gex!

>From time to time we GGA members humbly ask for your support, a measly $30
which is barely the price of a good cb gecko, much less the cost of the
non-domestic vet visits saved here everyday due to getting proper care info
and state of the art husbandry techniques/tools.

Lastly, as a frequent contributor to this list, I have to say that comment
hurt.
I have had people come up to me at just about every reptile function I
attend and thank me for my contributions here. I have made lifelong friends
who live here in the USA and over the ocean. To them, thank you so much for
appreciating me and this list.

My post wasn't intended to hurt you or anyone else and for that, I'm
sorry. You are both also correct that I shouldn't make snap judgements on
the GGA when it wasn't even a Rep that made the post, for which you had/have
little or no control over. I know where both of you are coming from in that
I have also spent many hours of my time helping others on great lists such
as Pogona at Egroups, which also encompasses knowledgeable members from
around the world. I know what a valuable resource these lists are, which is
why I always refer to them as 'interactive care sheets'. I don't like to
feel belittled or to be addressed to in the manner of which the original
post was made, especially since that person doesn't know anything about me.
The ironic thing is, I made the same mistake in my post. I passed judgement
about others that I don't know anything about (Other than Julie) based on
what I felt, w/o even realizing that's what I was doing. My apologies to
anyone that contributes to this list who took offense to my post. The point
I was trying to make was that this one member who paid his $30 dues
probably cost you several hundred dollars in new memberships and turned off
some people who's experience could/would make a great contribution to this
list.

OK, now to get back on topic.

Julie:

You posted to me regarding shipping UPS being typo because they have a 7 ft
drop regulation on box strength and packing. That doesn't make UPS any less
careless with the packages than USPS. It boils down to the individuals, not
the company (use this post as an example) that are handling the freight.
In most cases, people are good natured and care about animals so when they
see the labels that caution the handlers about the live contents, I think
in most cases any given person would treat that box just a little better
than 'ordinary freight'. If I didn't, I'd have a no ship policy and that
would be that. I can say that in 3 years of shipping nation wide, I've never
had a single incident with UPS or USPS. As far as my preference goes, that's
easy, USPS. They are more affordable and after talking with a designer that
used to work for a manufacturer of conveyor systems that fitted UPS, USPS
and Fed-Ex, he claims USPS has the best all around system to insure less
possible
damage and misplaced shipments than the others companies.
However, I also will not ship to any destination that can't receive
overnight service. If USPS can't make it, than I use UPS. To me, the
possible risks of a 2 day shipment (an additional 24 hours for someone to go
"postal" on my package lol) far exceeds any risks to an overnight shipment
via UPS.
