My good old Loveridge (African geckoes etc) does not give a single clue on
which differences there are between the bibroni and turneri (turneri being a
subspecies of bibroni). That would mean it's the same species and then
bibroni, being the older name is the one to use..

Onderwerp: [Gecko] Pachydactylus bibroni is really P. turneri?

>Hi everyone,
>
>I have a theory that I'd like another opinion on:
>Pachydactylus bibroni is very similar in apperance to Pachydactylus
turneri.
>As most gecko enthusiasts know, Pachydactylus bibroni is a very common
>species in this hobby, but I claim that all the bibronis (at least here in
>Sweden) are in fact P. turneri. The reason for that is that Pachydactylus
>bibroni is an endemic species for the country of South Africa (according
tho
>Bill Branch's "A Field Guide to Snakes and other Reptiles of Southern
>Africa"), and since South Africa doesn't export their fauna, then were
would
>all the wildcaught P. bibroni come from?? But Pachydactylus turneri on the
>other hand ranges from the Nothern part of South Africa through Namibia,
>Botswana, Zimbabwe, Angola and southern Tanzania. And Tanzania exports
loads
>of reptiles. So since the two species is so similar, it should be P.
turneri
>that everyone claim to be bibroni....
>Can someone confirm my theory, or tell me I'm wrong, and in that case why?
>Opinions appriciated!
