I am a member of the AZA.

AZA is far more worried about the primate trade and canned hunts.  Also
private ownership of large cats.  Although the AZA is also very concerned
with the impact the exotic pet trade (including herps) has on wild
populations... I think everyone should be worried about that.

The article in the current issue of Communiqu� covers the fact that many
states have no laws regulating exotic pet ownership.  True that the article
did include reptiles within the definition of "exotic" but was really more
concerned with states which allow private ownership of Tigers without
permit.
