Dear animal lover,
The information you have received regarding a meeting to develop a ban on
the private ownership of exotic animals is erroneous. The AZA is hosting a
Legislative Conference next week, as we do every year, to educate our
members on pertinent issues and legislation that affects zoos and aquariums.
This year the issues are the Endangered Species Act, the Animal Welfare Act,
Marine Mammal Protection Act, National and International Conservation Funds.
A ban on the private ownership of exotic animals is not, and never has, been
on the agenda for the Legislative Conference.
We would appreciate it if you could post this message to the listserv that
initially sent you the erroneous information so that others will be made
aware.
Thank you, Jane Ballentine
AZA Director/Public Affairs
