Hi all,
Sorry for the crossposts......
There's a gentleman on FrogNet, a teacher of kids with learning disabilities
in Florida, that annually organizes a trip to the Peruvian Amazon for his
students to photograph, document, and collect data on the various species of
dart frogs (and other herps, primates and mammals) indigenous to that
country. His name is Arnold Stark, and he is as passionate about his
students as he is herps.
Of course, this is a massive undertaking, and a hardship on the parents of
these kids. Some makers of the products we all use, such as Fluker and
Reptiles Magazine, are helping to sponsor this too. In the past [three
trips], it has been a great success, leaving these kids a lasting impression
of the fauna of this area, as well as a glimpse of some vanishing species.
All of these kids are avid naturalists, and hope to pursue careers related
to conservation. Most have herps of their own, too.
If you are interested in helping with this project, email me off line a
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and I'll send you his opening letter, and the mission
statement (the statement, however, is in WordDoc, but if you're seriously
interested and can't open it, I'll see if I can save it as something else.)
It's a fairly large document, so I didn't include it. It contains a bio of
each child that will be embarking on this adventure of a lifetime :)
The kids, their families and Mr. Stark would be grateful for any assistance
we herpers can provide.
