Robert,
Cool temps are important. I let mine get down into the 50s
at night during the winter. Most of the time it's between
60-68F night, 72-75 day. I get the most eggs in Spring
and Fall, but sometimes in other months. I screwed up
incubation quite a bit before I got it right.
Breeding females should get snails or extra calcium
supplements administered orally.
I keep the babies in custom vivaria of about 15 gal
in size with a height of 17-18". Substrate is
soil covered with dried leaves. I also provide
branches and lots of plants and cork bark leaned
on the walls of the enclosure. The idea is to provide
a complex environment where gex and prey will
frequently encounter each other without the
babies being stressed by the constant presence of insects.
Once they get well started, they are more apt to chase
prey down. They eat a fair bit, 8-10 small insects every
2nd day seems to work well.
Too bad about the bugs, carrion flies maybe?
