DO NOT use sand with babies. Don't even think about it for another year. The
amount of time it would take for a baby to become impacted is much quicker than
an adult leopard gecko. This is just one reason not to use it, there are many
more, mainly your unfamiliarity with their routine and husbandry. Once you
develop your "gecko" powers of observation, you are better able to pick up when
they are off their routine. When they don't feel good they tend to gobble down
sand or other types of ingestible substrate(includes calci-sand, anything that
can fit in their mouth). The producers of calcium sand products went way over
the line when saying their substrate is "safe." As soon as their products went
on the market vets started seeing cases of impaction with these products.

I don't know any breeders who use sand, it harbors bacteria. I use Costco blue
"shop towels." Simple to change out, nice color, very thick and absorbent. I
recommend beginners use Repticage carpet, it is available at most pet shops and
herp mail order places like the Bean Farm http://www.beanfarm.com. You may also
go to Home Depot and cut yourself the same thing from their big rolls of indoor
outdoor carpet.

Do the above, and you won't.

I use vermiculite, it works. Don't know about green moss. For good set-up info
read De Vosjoli's Leopard Gecko Manual, I also have an FAQ on my website.
