I noticed the EMBL database as well, and was puzzled over how 75% (3 species)
of the genus is in mainland Africa and then the other 25% (1 species) occurs
on the Seychelles.

It appears U. inexpectata was once a Phyllodactylus, the cup liked widen toes
the other describes suggests a Phyllodactylus to me.  It's occurence on the
Seychelles is not surprising considering a LOT of Malagasy geckoes are
related to Phyllodactylus (Ebenavia, Matoatoa, Paroedura...)

But this distrubution still puzzles me.  I would expect there to be (or have
been) a species occuring somewhere between, like Pemba Island, or the Comoros.

I read once that Ebenavia inunguis was confused with U. inexpectata on the
Seychelles (or elsewhere), the same could very well be true for accounts of
Ebenavia on the Comoros and Pemba Island.  I think I read that in the
description of Ebenavia maintimainty.

But who knows?
