Many books, articles, and postings advise gecko keepers to vertically orient
an aquarium (I'm assuming the all-glass variety!) for arboreal gex.

What are some materials, methods, and designs that work well to make a
lid/front to such a cage? Currently all my gex cages are horizontally
oriented tanks, and I make tops that are essentially window screens that fit
on the lip that runs around the inside of the plastic at the top. The screens
are secured by L-screws and wire nuts.

Ten years ago Mike Miller of the Chicago Herpetological Society published a
description of a design that worked well (I made two), but involved
disassembling the aquarium. The problem I had was that the glass would often
crack in the process. Also, I used tanks thrown out in the trash, so I
needed to get replacement glass (which was probably as expensive as a new
10-gallon tank).

Any and all designs and suggestions are welcomed! (Incidentally, any reptile
magazine editors reading this: detailed do-it- yourself projects would be
great additions to your magazines. Almost all of the how-to's I've seen
either are too general or assume more facility with tools and materials than
many readers have.)
