*This is a male and has the spurs. He has the black lateral
lines. The description of petrii in the North Africa book got us confused. We
do not own it yet, but know where to get it.*
*We paid attention and appreciate it. attention, We have some good
descriptipns in Gecko Fauna of the USSR (do you like that book?). It does
describe the behavior for C. orientalis using the tail to erase tracks very
well. It does not describe the spurs, but that does not mean we dissagree with
you.*
I've kept a good few C. orientalis with terrible
results. I mean I just
failed with them. I've also kept S. petrii,
so I'm well aware of the
differences. If your geckoes start going on
hunger strikes, that will be
just another clue to their identity.
*We only have one individual and he has not gone on a hunger
strike yet. In fact, he eats quite well. We would like to get others at some
point.*
Do either of you have photos of your captive
males?
Thanks again,
Kevin
I would have to agree with Daniel on this one. I've kept both species,
with
fairly good results. The C. orientalis are a much larger gecko when
compaired to "normal" S. petrii. The tail shape, spurs on male C.
orientalis, and head shape will differ from that of S.
petrii.
