Hi guys,

Yep, Emmanuel showed me several years ago - lowland has a creamy white
underbody and upland replaces that by obvious bright green. VERY different
in colour and behaviour. Several of my past upland females were far more
spectacular than males of my lowland animals. Lowland were more obvious in
terrarium with upland being far more timid. I have no idea about
intergrades...

Jamie

Hi-
There are two forms of cepediana, lowland and upland.
The most common form available in the trade has been the lowland form.
These last few batches of WC imports have been a mix of the two.
(Now, whether they are WC or not, is another arguement for another thread)
Anyway, there are a couple of key differences between the two.
First off, it seems that both sexes of the upland form look virtually the
same. Also, both sexes of the upland form have green coloration on the
ventral side, darkest at the throat.
It appears that many upland females have been mislabled as males, based on
their "male" coloration.

Jamie Corell pointed out these differences to me at the show, and we went
through most of the animals that Strictly Reptiles had. Maybe 2 dozen
animals
total. He had both forms, and had some upland females labled as males.
There was one g.guimbeaui that looked alot like a g. rosagularis, but after
it colored up, it was obvious it was a g.guimbeaui. Darn!
Info like this is just the type of stuff The Phelsuma interest group will be
trading,. So if you haven't joined in, email me! So far 10 members!
Thanks, and I hope this explains the two forms. If I missed something or am
incorrect, please let me know- also, I am curious to know if you can
interbreed the two forms. I agree with Jamie that you probalbly can, but if
anyone knows for sure- let us know- Magnus, Emanuel - you guys back from the
US yet?
Jason
