Indeed, there are the classics:
Geckos: a pet owner's manual by Bartlett and Bartlett - best bang for the buck!
Geckoes by Henkel and Schmidt. The cadillac of gecko books!
Rhacodactylus: Biology, Natural History and Husbandry by Henkel and Seipp.
Amphibians and Reptiles of Madagascar and the Mascarene, Seychelles
and Comoro Islands by Henkel and Schmidt.

These are all very good. Our own Lyle Puente has an excellent leopard gecko book
out too.

See the above. For ID, the more general books, also Henkel and Schmidt's
Madagascar Field Guide and Cogger's Australian Reptile book. After getting that
book I decided someday I have to get some Diplodactylus! Keeping and Breeding of
Geckos by H. Seufer is good for photos only and some ID. Some IDs are wrong in
that book, but it is worth it for the photos alone.
