This is an interesting development. When I "reentered" the hobby twenty years
ago, I was told that TFH publications in general, while pretty, were not the
best sources of information. Having cut my teeth on the ". . . as Pets"
series (some of which I still have after 35+ years!), I was surprised.
However, aside from some great photos, I was never too impressed with the
editorial content of this publication; the GGA publications are simply a lot
better.

So how many herp-related magazines are out there now? Is the declining
readership a reflection of declining numbers of hobbyists or dissatisfaction
with the magazine?

On a side note, so many of the husbandry articles in any publication are
formulaic and redundant; those that are not usually deal with unusual, exotic
species only a few of us will ever (or should) have. Personally, no
publication has enough field-based articles for my taste. I'd like a lot more
information about the lives of lizards (and other herps) in the wildeven if
the wild is a garden in Miami (which from reports I hear up here in the Windy
City, can get pretty wild).
