Hi Gexers,

This is a warning for those of you who are not familiar with WC and the
protocols one should have when dealing with gex fresh off the boat. It
has come to my attention that recently a bunch of WC leopards are on the
market. These DO NOT belong in the hands of novices. If you are
inexperienced, stick to CB. That is much safer in terms of decreased
likelihood of parasites. Notice I say "decreased." There is a myth that
CB do not have parasites, that is not true. Parasites in gex can occur
in the cleanest environments from sources like food and such that we are
still trying to figure out!

What could happen all over the place is what I suspect happened in an
e-mail I answered this am. The beginner gexers, who have a long-term CB
leo, probably bought one of these WC geckos, introduced it immediately
to their long term guy, and pretty soon the new leo passed. Now the long
term leo is showing symptoms. This poor person actually did the right
thing by consulting a vet, non-domestic I am not sure, and got some bad
advice, I don't want to elaborate. I told them to get to a better
non-dom. vet immediately. Not all non-dom. vets are equal, and you
should have a good one located ahead of time before you need one anyway.

Introduction of cbs much less WC to long term geckos is a risky
business. Quarantine for a three month period is the safest way to go.
Anyway, my point is to recommend beginners do not get WC and to point
out the necessity of quarantine under even good circumstances. I had
someone tell me the other day they introduced some WC leopards into
their breeding colony and they lost the whole colony.
