I have one that we call the "mystery gecko" given to us by a herpetologist
we work for. I am noticing that they are now sold as "Egyptian Dune Geckos"
in the pet trade. We first keyed it out to be Stenodactylus petrii, but
Daniel's feedback to a photo had us curious and unsure. He lacks tubercles,
but fits the descriptions of Stenodactylus petrii in two books including
Amphibians and Reptiles of North Africa.My question is "Egyptian Dune
Geckos" seem common on the pet trade and are cheap. Which is easier to breed
or import, S. petrii or Crossobamon orientalis?

I'm not sure whether or not they are true C. orientalis. Morphologically
they look just like Stenodactylus petrii, but they have a far more beautiful
pattern on their bodies. They were sold as Stenodactylus orientalis, but a
German friend of mine who is unbeatable at identifying geckos, said that
they were Crossobamon orientalis. Unfortunately I don't have access to a
digital camera, so I have no pics available.
