Melissa, I haven't kept this species either, but from what I've seen,
adult males have a yellow or golden color on their backs, while the
females just have the mottled grey/brown pattern.

Almost all of these geckos (Gekko ulikovskii) are wild caught, and may
have diseases and parasites from the crowded and dirty conditions they
have been exposed to. It's a good idea to quarantine any new animals,
but especially wild caught ones, to prevent infecting the healthy ones.
It's also less stressful for the new animal to not have to deal with
others right away.

Consider taking him back to the store.

You should be able to get it from most of the online bookstores. I
particularly like dealing with www.zoobooksales.com. I think Julie
(below) sells it too, but is too polite to mention it. However, any local
bookstore should be able to order it for you and save you the shipping
costs. Here's the info on the book:

        Geckos
Richard D. Bartlett, Patricia P. Bartlett

        ISBN: 0812090829
Published: January 1995 | Published by Barron's Educational Series

The price in Canada is $9.50 CDN, so it's like something like $5.99 US.
