Sounds like an Hemidactylus turcicus... Check if the skin over the eyes
looks more green and the body more flesh. If the skin over the eyes is about
the same color then it is probably a Tarentola mauretanica. Hemidactulus has
a single row of larger shilds over the chin, Tarentola has two rows of
chinshields and the one on front is rather long. Tarentola is much more
bulky, while hemidactylus looks really fragile. Anyway as husbandry is
concerned, that does not matter much. Give them a small vivarium, with some
hide-outs. I would suggest three layers of cork bark. Keep the tem at 25 deg
C by day and 20 by night. (For the time...they will rest during winter, but
that 's for next year), spray in the morning and be sure the viv is dry in
the evening. They will eat most kinds of insects, flies, criquets,
waxmothlarvae.. If it refuses to eat, give me a message... then you probably
have to give them a winter-spell...

Onderwerp: [Gecko] A gecko from Spain?
Hi! I've been lurking for about 1 yrs but now I finally have an urge
to speak up. I just received a phone call from a rescue center. I
truckdriver had just unloaded his truck and found a small lizard,
supposedly a gecko, from his trunk. Assumingly the lizard took a lift
from Spain (that's where the truck was loaded) and traveled all the way
through Europe to see northern lights here in Finland (that's where I
live). It's 9.30 pm here atm, and I'll get to see the gecko and bring it
home tomorrow. In the mean time I'm desperately trying to figure out
which gecko it could be. Unfortunately I haven't seen this lizard
personally so I'm relying only what other's have told me, which isn't
much.
This gecko is very tiny, approx 2 cm SVL (=1 inch) and STL about 3,5 cm
(~1,5 inches). It's coloring is a mix of greenand beige, but the
resucers said that they can easily imagine it's normal coloring being
much greener. How they made that judgement is beyond my knowledge. The
gecko has some stripes on it's back going from side to side and these
lines are supposed to be more prominent in tail. The toes have what I
believe are called lamellae in english. And as I said, it is supposedly
coming from Spain. Does this ring a bell to anyone? I'll try to get some
pics tomorrow but my equipment are pretty limited so I dunno if I'll
manage doing it. ANY suggestions are more than welcome at this stage,
and also suggestions for a set-up. At this time what would you think is
a good "guess" for a set up. They're keeping it in a bare plastic mug,
so I suppose almost any other set up would be better than it's current
one.
It would be great if this gecko would survive, but naturally I'm not too
optimistic. But we'll see...
TIA
