If you are speaking of a sick herp, I would not let the temp drop too much at night. Healthy herps can have a temp drop at night meaning turn off their lights. If you need to warm a sick terrestrial at night a red/blue bulb will do the trick, also the heat emitting non-light types (name escapes me at the moment) like the Bean Farm sells.
