I think that your first gecko must have laid eggs in the warm soil and died or escaped and then your gecko's egg hatched in the spring (the gecko was probably pregnant when you got her). As for the winter...I would suggest bringing him inside (simply because I'm not sure if he'd survive outside) and feed him pinhead crickets (i've had these geckos before and they LOVE crickets). That's about all I can think of. Good Luck!
