I used to have 2 pairs of G. vorax. They were housed in cages almost 5
feet tall, side by side, with a visual barrier between them so there was
no stress from seeing each other. However, each pair knew there was another
pair around, since they could hear the calling. I could make out at least
a dozen distinct 'noises' almost like they were talking to each other.
When one male clucked, the other would reply, and it seems it was always
the same noise (word?) when replying to a rival male's call. The mating
noises always sounded the same, as did the "Get off my planet, you creep!"
warnings when she didn't feel like mating. It would be interesting to study
their calls to see if they are really the same 'words' throughout the species
or just random noises that sound similar to us.
Just got to love their toenails.... anyone need a good strong coat hook?
No wonder the loser in a domestic situation gets disembowelled so easily.
