It is really impossible to say without a necropsy. It sounds like the body
of the animal was too far gone when you got it. Maybe it died above or
under the heat source and degraded quickly. With the watery feces, my first
thought would be a parasite, but other things can cause diarrhea. If it was
a parasite infestation, then it might have had something other than
nematodes. Could have had flagellates, coccidia, or maybe even
cryptosporidia. Does he have any other geckos that were exposed to this
one? If so maybe you could do a fecal on one of them.
