I kind of think as the anole as the "trash" lizard,
then again, I'm biased as I breed tokays :)

One last possibility. The Chinese geckos, Gekko chinensis and
Gekko hokouensis have recently become the subject of several
evolutionary studies. It appears that both of these species have a
complex evolutionary history and there are some chromosomal races and
hybrid forms that haven't been described yet as species. With the
extremely large range of the Tokay gecko I am sure that it's possible
that it has a similar evolutionary history with several taxa yet to be
described.
That is very interesting. Thanks for the
great info. Yes, the large range does make one wonder about cryptic
species etc. A salamander analogy would be genetic evidence of species
divergence in the slimy group. I would just consider it a color morph if
it was not for the unique scalation and form. However....a hybrid or
chromosomal variant is a very interesting angle. The Jeff/blue spots of
the lizard world in a way...eh? I am heading to try and pin down those
references you mention this week.
Its a shame that the Tokay has
to be the trash lizard of the pet shop circuit.
Regards and
again thanks,
