Hi, this is not Hartmut.

I just read a journal article on how field herpetologists catch their
quarry. A minnow trap is used and placed over the hole in which the
lizard is hiding. Apparently it proved effective. A minnow trap is
basically an funnel (made of mesh), with end-tip opened up into some
sort of chamber. The idea is the gecko would enter the 'trap', lured by
some food, and then would not likely find the open end-tip. They use
this premise to trap flies and yellow jackets as well. One could make or
modify a store bought trap to fit in the vivarium.

Sorry for the clunky explanation the article (linked below) does a much
better job of explaining the technique and materials needed.
