Hi, all, Well, all is well that ends well. Masako, the young woman that e-mailed me about the abandoned leos that she found by a dumpster, has filled me in on the rest of the story. I asked her if I could post her reply to you all, and she agreed. Many many thanks to all of you wonderful gecko folks that helped with this, especially John Heiser. It turned out well, as you can see. And we now have a new gecko-enthusiast in our fold!
Does anyone know about the LI Reptile Museum? Cheers Lorie McGraw Columbia SC -------------- <snip>> thank you so much for your help. I drove 1.5 hours each way to get to John Heiser, the board member of the LI Herps society. He helped me get these guys completly shed out and gave me great tips. He thinks that the guys are in good shape except for the eyes on one of them. He thinks it has had several layers of skin that didn't shed out right, that got infected, well he got a couple of layers, but it is still cloudy and dark. We are hoping he will shed it out the next time around. I bought a "few" things for these guys today. Actually like $70 worth of stuff from Petco. hehe...I got them new bedding, cricket food, cricket container, vitamins, 2 thermometers for the tank and heating bulb. I feel like a new mom! I didn't know they were nocturnal, so i got them a non light emitting lamp. The tank, after a few adjustments, is now 84 on the cooler side and 88 on he heated side. It was hard adjusting the lamps because it is pretty hot out today, but I think we are going to be ok. I'll keep an eye on the one that is not eating. I got chicken baby food for him too, so we'll see. I don't want him to get used to me hand feeding him, but he must eat, so until he is healthy and moving, I guess we'll try that. He has been able to find the water, so he is drinking. I guess he just can't keep up with the crickets, because his vision must be impaired. Do they make glasses for these guys?? : 0 ) I used to nurse baby birds for my dad who bred cockatiels, so I am used to nursing animals, I've placed several domesticated rabbits to homes too. I might after all keep these guys, Taking care of them doesn't sound too hard, once they are eating and drinking and shedding right. Well I scrubbed the tank and rock caves with organic germ killing shampoo, (my dog's). Hopefully that is safe for them. it smelled really really bad in there. So that is the whole scoop for now, Sorry it is so long! I will definatly keep in touch with their progress, and let you know of any changes. I wouldn't of gotten this far without you, Thanks, very much. I am glad to see there is so many thoughtful and caring people out there for these guys. Thanks for your support, Masako P.S. oh by the way, my boyfriend did some research and found out the owner of LI reptile museum just got arrested for wiring shut a water dragon's mouth. And John said all they do is sell the animals when they are donated. As well as making the donating people pay $50 for dropping the animals off. He owns several horses at the barn i ride at and he drives a new car every other day. It's very sad to hear he is making so much money off of these poor animals. So Please let the Herps society people know of this museum! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ <a href="http://www.officialusdomains.com/default.asp?oafid=27005"> Register New .us Domain Names!
