The sap of a Diffenbachia is acidic and can cause burns especially to mucus membranes.
I had a cat chew on a leaf once, he never did it again. He got blisters in his mouth.
I think if he got it in his eye it could cause blindness.

I just bought a plant to go in my p. guimbeaui tank that will support
the males weight but found out that it is a dieffembachia. I also
realized that I have had one in for a while with one of my neonates
which is doing fine. I am wondering though if I have been lucky that it
has not been poisoned yet, or is it fine. I really want to put this
plant in with the adults but am afraid of them being poisoned. Should I
be concerned?

Thank you,
Jesse J.
