You know what would make this really interesting for the students. Take them 
out and collect a pair of native Coleonyx variegatus or introduced 
Hemidactylus turcicus. Nevada Department of Wildlife would allow it and the 
permit would be easy to get. The students could see the natural habitat and 
try to duplicate it in the vivarium. Not to mention all the other reptiles 
they could encounter. The rewards would be great. Possibly even future 
scientists.
